A WOMAN in her 50s has been found dead inside a blazing car as cops held a 59-year-old man on suspicion of murder.

Cops said the victim was taken to hospital for treatment, but sadly died from her injuries on Tuesday.

The woman was found in Quarry Road, in the Knockloughrim area of Co Derry, Northern Ireland.

A murder probe is underway after the woman's body was found inside the smoking wreckage of a motor.

The grim discovery was made shortly before 6am when local residents spotted the car.

Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell said: “At around 5.40am this morning police received a report of a car on fire outside a house on the road.

...Police and Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and a woman, aged in her 50s, who was in the car was taken to hospital for treatment.

“Sadly, despite the best efforts of hospital staff, she succumbed to her injuries and died in hospital this evening.
